The Rosa 'Peace' (originally registered as 'Madame A. Meilland') is arguably the most famous and successful hybrid tea rose in history. Bred by French horticulturist Francis Meilland between 1935 and 1939, it was famously smuggled out of France as cuttings ahead of the German invasion and formally named "Peace" in 1945 to commemorate the end of World War II. With over 100 million plants sold globally, it is a member of the World Federation of Rose Societies Hall of Fame and holds the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
Key Characteristics
Blooms: Enormous, exceptionally full, fully double flowers that can reach up to 15 cm (6 inches) across. The primary colour is a rich, primrose or golden-yellow, with edges delicately flushed or shaded with a soft madder-rose pink.
Colour Shifts: The blend of colors is highly dynamic, often shifting and becoming more intensely pink toward the margins as the bloom matures or changes with the temperature.
Fragrance: Emits a sweet, mild, and fruity tea perfume that is classic but subtle.
Flowering Season: A reliable repeat-flowering variety that produces consecutive flushes from early summer (July) through to September or early autumn
